2018-2019 President's Message

Dear Miracle Makers,

I hope this letter finds you having a great first month of the new school year. If your system is like ours, you are tired but proud of how you started your race to being” Equipped to Serve”. Our attitude of being service minded has become contagious and created a culture for our entire school system. If we are truly walking the path of servant leadership, hearts will change in a way as if we have has never seen before. Therefore, miracle makers are you ready to change hearts.

Looking in the Mirror: As I started this year and the journey before me, I took a good look in the mirror. I imagined what my heart would look like in one year of walking this journey. My prayer is that I will see a person that puts others before self, has a heart of servitude, and a heart that is broken for others. What will your heart look like when you finish your journey?

Culture of Kindness: This year the Butts County School System is focused on creating an environment that centers on kindness and servant leadership. The message of servant leadership applies to all, because we are all somebody. Whatever your title or duty you can be a leader. Managers manage daily duties and responsibilities but they do not manage people, they lead people. Leadership is a learned skill and true servant leaders lead others by walking a path of kindness and selflessness.
Therefore, all my somebodies are you ready to become leaders in both your school system and community.

Changing our World: Great leaders change the world one act of kindness at a time. I am so proud to work in a profession that serves not only nourishment to student everyday but also love. I often wonder what my school system would look like if we all smiled and said good morning to every student that entered the building.

I truly believe that serving others can come in so many forms that go way past the cafeteria, hallways or parking lots. School Nutrition has some of the greatest leaders that have changed the world in so many ways. My challenge to you and to me is for us to take all the love, passion, and leadership that has formed and created our great profession into the future by showing others how kindness can change the heart of the world by pouring into our students and others.

So, my miracle makers are you ready to create a culture of kindness for your community and school system. Are you ready for an awesome journey this year focused on being “Equipped to Serve, Service Minded, Hunger Focused”.

Ready, Set, Go!

Nicole James, GSNA 2018-2019 President
