Dear Miracle Makers,
 

As we move along in this New Year, I can’t help but to reflect on the awesome training we have experienced so far and the exciting training and events yet to come.

The next few months feature such events as the SNAP training February 21-22 at the FFA Camp in Covington, SNA Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. February 24-26, National School Breakfast Week March 4-8, GSNA Legislative Conference in Atlanta Ga. March 12-13, GaDOE and GSNA Leadership Seminar March 20-21, and of course the awesome GSNA Annual Conference in Athens Ga. April 11-13. Attending training events such as the GSNA Legislative Action Conference and the Annual State GSNA Conference will help you fulfill the goal of being “Equipped to Serve, Service Minded and Hunger Focused”.

The knowledge and skills gained at these events will serve you throughout your career in school nutrition and beyond!
Be sure to start planning now so you won’t miss any of these exciting events.
 

GSNA Legislative Action Conference: Calling all members, we need your help this year to spread the 2019 State Legislative Position Paper. Talking points this year include: Restoration of two million dollars to the FY2020 School Nutrition budget and Increase the funding for the Public-School Educators Retirement System from the current $15.25 to $15.50 per year of service. We need you to join us at the capital to represent your community and to tell your stories of how these talking points effect your students and how an employee with 30 years of service would bring home less than $300 per month in retirement. So, miracle makers can we count on you to join us and let your light shine for all to see.


GSNA Annual State Conference: Calling all members, we need you to join us in Athens for an event that will amaze you with awesome training, exciting entertainment, a packed exhibit hall and of course networking opportunities that have never been seen before. Training opportunities will include speakers such as Chef Jeff and Nancy Rice accompanied by educational sessions including Shaking and Waking Up Menus, Get the Basics on Inventory Management, Administrative Review Survival Tactics (both system and school level), State of the State, Working Smart to Get it All Done (Time Management), and Substitute Training for Consistency and Safety. The exhibit hall will be packed with new products to dazzle our customers with. We will dance under the stars to the musical sounds of the Hudson Road Band while enjoying our favorite tailgate foods Friday night and celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues from all over the state at our Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. So, miracle makers don’t miss this extra special event, complete your registration form now and be ready for the time of your life.

 2019 Legislative Advocacy Conference

GSNA is ready to get you "Equipped" for the 2019 legislative season. This year our "Hunger Focused" and "Service Minded"agenda will help reach Georgia legislators in a big way.

School nutrition representatives will meet in the capital city to review our plan of action to advance the school nutrition advocacy agenda for the next year. Awards Deadlines – March 7th

It’s GSNA awards season! Do you know someone that deserves to be recognized for their outstanding work?
Have they gone above and beyond to fulfill the mission of “Building Healthy Children, Ready to Learn”? School nutrition employees are the often unrecognized backbone of the educational system and help keep it running smoothly.

 Legislative Contribution Reminder - March 7th Deadline
Please remember to send in your State legislative contribution by March 7th. Your donations help GSNA lobby on behalf of ALL school nutrition staff to the state and national legislature. GSNA has asked that each local chapter contribute to our legislative fund to assist in these efforts. Please use the Legislative Contribution form to calculate your local donation amount.  
 
 2019-2020 Leadership Academy
The The GSNA Leadership Academy combines a program of classroom sessions and outside class team projects to develop, exercise and strengthen individual leadership potential. Applicants selected will work towards becoming proficient and effective leaders by achieving the following objectives:

o Attendance and participation in a series of leadership workshops and training sessions
o Comprehension and knowledge on the history of school nutrition and GSNA, the governance process and the mission of the association
o Development of lifelong relationships with other applicants who are also interested in leadership development within the school nutrition association
o Preparation for future leadership positions on a local, district or state association board or committee
o Identification of the qualities of an effective leader through review of the various types of leadership styles and through effective communication skills
o Appreciation for and expertise in the teamwork approach in planning, problem solving and development of a team project
