Message from the President

 #TheJourney

Who is ready for the adventure of a lifetime?

I am and I certainly hope you are too! As we start this new journey, we will navigate through some exciting turns that will help us to “Shake It Up” in School Nutrition. Like all fun trips, there will be some stops along the way to learn about many fascinating things such as who we are as a person, employee and member. My hope is that as we are learning we are growing as we hop and skip down this road called life. So much of who we are is reflected in the kind of job we do every day, what we do with our “extra” time, as well as who we surround ourselves with on our journey.

The theme for this year “Grow, Search, Nourish, Achieve…Let the Journey Begin” is what I believe that we all strive for every day. As School Lunch Professionals, it is our goal to make sure that we are the very best at our daily jobs as well as being the very best parent, sibling, friend and even a GSNA member that we can be. If we are not working towards always being a better person then we might need to get an EKG and make sure we are alive! My hope is very simple: 1.) Realize how valuable you are every minute of every day 2.) Look for ways to better the lives of your staff and children 3.) Feed the hopes and dreams you have while feeding our children the very best breakfast, lunch, snack and even supper 4.) Realize that while traveling on your journey, you have achieved so much more than man could ever applaud you for…you have made a difference!

This year you will see many of our same activities and events, however several new and fun adventures await. Our culinary contest has taken some new directions so be aware of a few new twists on this path. We are going to band together to help those in need by having a statewide community service project. This roadmap awaits you and I know that fork in the road will be very profitable for many. Young Professionals will be new to our trip this year with interesting and fun ideas to encourage everyone. Last, but not least, we will look “Beyond the Plate” to honor those that give back unselfishly to their community.

This theme is our theme together. I want you to feel free to share your journeys with me…I want to hear how you Grow, Search, Nourish and Achieve at work, play and home! I am very proud to be your President this year and hope that as our paths meet, cross and meet again that in some small way I have made a difference in your life.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. ~ Old Irish Blessing

Laura Lynn, President 2017-2018
