Maximizing Your Trip: The best days to visit legislators are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Legislators often begin their week late on Monday and most leave town as soon as business is finished on Friday. Call ahead to determine the very best day and time for those officials you plan to visit. To help you navigate the legislative system, you should call Mary Frances Williams on her cell phone at 404-395-3485, when you arrive at the Capitol Building. She is the Legislative Consultant for GSNA. She would like to meet with you for a few minutes if she can arrange it.
Open Dates: Three weeks of open dates have been set aside as alternate dates, if you are unable to come during your assigned week. You will need to schedule that change with Stephanie Taylor so that we can let Mary Frances know when to expect you. The assigned dates above will enable you to include your capitol visit in the Public Relations Portfolio.
Changes in Schedules: Sometimes there is a cancellation of a legislative session. Mary Frances will let us know at least a day or so ahead. It is always good to call the Friday before your scheduled visit.
Address: 214 State Capitol Atlanta, GA 30334. The Capitol is located in downtown Atlanta at the intersection of I-20 and I-75/85, near Underground Atlanta, The World of Coca-Cola, and the Five Points and Georgia State MARTA stations.
Parking: There is public parking during the session at the Pete Hackney Deck on Jesse Hill Jr. Drive (just east of the Twin Towers) and when this lot is full, there is parking at Underground (on M.L.K. Drive on the right just past Central Avenue). The Hackney deck is closer and less expensive ($5).
ID: Be prepared to show a picture ID when you go through security check at the Capitol.
